Data Acquisition in SAP BI

SAP BI allows you to acquire data from multiple data sources that can be distributed to different BI systems. A SAP Business Intelligence system can work as a target system for data transfer or source system for distribution of data to different BI targets.

s mentioned in the above image, you can see SAP BI source systems along with other systems −
  • SAP systems (SAP Applications/SAP ECC)
  • Relational Database (Oracle, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Flat File (Excel, Notepad)
  • Multidimensional Source systems (Universe using UDI connector)
  • Web Services that transfer data to BI by means of push

 The Growth of SAP:

1) Financial Modules
2) Financial records
3) UnIterrepted Connectivity
SAP TERM:

1) Client
Client 000

SAP deleiver this as a reference clcient in SAP. Its deleiverd with all default setting but without having any master data. You can copy it by using the copy function and crate additional client in SAp as per your immplementation reqirement.

i) Log in ID
ii) One time entry in system
iii) Unique
iv) Master Code
v) Exchange rate

2) Company Code:
i) Legal financial Record
ii) Separate compnay code for company
iii) Independent and legal entity

3) Business Area:

Own Set of Financial Statement
Maintenance our own record and planing
Internal Suse

4)  Company Codes:

5) Variant principal:

 i) Define variant step 1
ii) Determine value step2
iii) Assign variant to object stepIII

Performance Issues:

1. Report Performance
2. Load Performance
3.General Performance

Report Performance:
Create Aggregates on SAP
-Use OLAP Cache for buffering the query result to reduce burden on database
-Pre-caliculated Web templates helps to distribute workload of running report to off-peak hours and can have report result set ready for very fast access to data.
-Use small amount of result data as starting point of any queries and do the drill down
-Avoid reporting on ODS(Open Data services)
-If you use exclusion in reporting (<>), the indices are not used, so avoid using the exclusion but use inclusion.
-Use read mode "read when navigating and expanding the hierarchies"
-Use compression of infocube since the E table is optimized for queries
-Create additional indexes at manage data target - performance tab
-Run DB Statistics often

Load Performance

-Check the ABAP(Advanced business application programming) Coding at transfer and update rules this would make performance slow
-Keep available of more dialog processes available and do load balance to different servers
-Indexes on source tables
-Use fixed lengh files if you load data from a flat files and put the files on the application server
-Prefer to use SAP delivered standard extractors
-Use PSA and Datatarget parallel option in the infopackage load settings
-Start several infopackages parallel with different selection options
-load master data before loading transaction data

General Performance:

Archieve and delete the old data
-Use line item dimensions for large data
-Use BW statistics cube to monitor the performance
-If you are not going to use ODS for reporting desable the Bex reporting flag
